Partial knitting (or short rows) significantly expands what can be knitted on the machine. It is how we can create shoulder slopes, bust darts, sock heels, and button holes in addition to more decorative textures and three-dimensional fabrics. In this class we will review how partial knitting is achieved on a knitting machine and various ways to use it in developing a garment or object. This is a hands on class. Each student will be provided with their own machine to learn and create several swatches illustrating the techniques demonstrated. The entire class uses a single bed machine. Learn everything you need to know to start using your knitting machine! In this class we will review the terminology, equipment, tools and techniques required to start creating and designing simple knitted fabrics. This is a hands on class. Each student will be provided with their own machine to learn and create several swatches illustrating the techniques demonstrated. These techniques will include how to cast on and bind off your knitting, designing a striped pattern and how to create simple shaping at the selvedges of your fabric. The entire class uses a single bed machine. If you are also interested in learning to use the ribber attachment, please find details for our ribber classes here.

All materials will be provided.

Skills required: None. This is an introductory course.

Studio Open House!

Come say hello and check out our new studio space! We are excited to welcome the local fiber arts community into our machine knitting classroom before classes officially begin. We will have some refreshments and a couple of machines set up to knit so that you can see just how much fun they are!
